•  The Ring and Ball Apparatus is a helpful tool for demonstrating thermal expansion.
• It consists of a brass ball connected to a brass ring with a chain, mounted on a rod with a wooden handle.
• When the ball is cold, it can easily pass through the ring.
• However, when heated, its diameter of 19mm makes it too large to fit through the ring.

When a weight is suspended to the free end of a cotton string which is wrapped round tin: shaft and the other end of which is tied to the shaft and it is allowed to fall to touch the ground then P.E. energy possessed by the falling weight has partly been used to give motion to the fly wheel and partly used in overcoming frictional resistance present in the bearings.

A steel frame mounted on a heavy cast iron base with leveling screws. Upper end of rod (under test) 900 mm length and 5mm diameter is clamped by a 3-jaw chuck and lower end is clamped into the axis of a torsional drum, which can be rotated by putting load in the scale pan passing over two frictionless pulley. Freely sliding three circular scales graduated in single degrees can be clamped at any position. Three pointers for clamping to the test rod are provided. Complete with three test rods, strings and two scale pans, but without weight.
